Development and testing of a new and innovative housingsystem for rabbits with an outdoor climate access and access to bedding material
A housing system for rearing rabbits is to be designed, developed and tested, which meets housing level 3 (outdoor climate) from the "Initiative Tierwohl". The priority here is a larger amount of space per animal, the outdoor climate stimulus (winter garden) and a littered area of the boxes. The project partners are concerned with collecting experience in keeping rabbits as descriped above, as this is currently not commercially practiced throughout europe.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
Because it is a brand new approach to rabbit husbandry that has not been practiced or attempted before, it is difficult to predict the result.
With our experience in the cooperation of all partners across the entire value chain, we hope to bring enough expertise to make the project a success. the aim is to develop an alternative husbandry system which improves the husbandry conditions compared to the currently practiced "Bodenhaltung" and to gain experience in this area. Testing an developement can open new doors in marketing and thus offer new futere sales opportunities for practice. In addition, acceptance toward society and NGOs is improved when industry shows that it wants to develop further in future.
