Project Title

Social farming as an instrument for the diversification of agricultural farms in Bavaria

Project description

Bavaria wants to facilitate the devlopment of social farming as an economically viable business models and and additional source of income for the farms. Furthermore the demand for services such as senior living, therapy with animals, dementia support, outdoor workplaces for people with disabilities or farm kindergartens is increasing.

The aim of the project is to develop ten innovative, economically viable business models for farms in the field of social farming. The aim is also to produce a practical handbook "Social farming business models", which describes the basic success factors for developing and establishing social farming services.

Results focusing on practiceorientation

The project involved the implementation of 8 pilot projects in 11 participating farms. The most important recommendations such as necessary resources (working time requirements, buildings, qualifications, suitability), profitability, financing options, process steps for setting up, cooperation partners and networking were given. Interested farmers can now refer to a special handbook that bundles these practical experiences in setting up social farming. Practitioners can use this information to better assess the opportunities and risks for their situation and thus make decisions on a stronger basis and with greater certainty.
