Treatment of barn exhaust air by photocatalytic cleaning systems (OG: Clean Air)
The aim of the project is to develop the basis for technically and microbiologically safe, modularly retrofittable and upgradeable stable exhaust air systems based on photocatalysis. To this end, photocatalytic oxidation is to be developed for the first time with regard to the reduction of all emission-relevant substances, including hygienization, and tested on a laboratory scale (laboratory samples). In contrast to other exhaust air treatment processes, this can significantly reduce climate-damaging exhaust air components. In contrast to current systems, no harmful residual materials or waste water are produced, so there is no additional disposal or treatment problem.
A photocatalyst system for water/wastewater developed by MFPA Weimar together with the company Lynatox GmbH was further developed for the planned application of cleaning highly polluted (stable) exhaust air and used as a demonstrator. It was found that all relevant gases can be photocatalytically degraded. The reaction rate was highest for ammonia and the organic VOCs, and therefore the degradation was also the most efficient. In parallel, a small-scale reactor model was developed, which also confirmed the previous measurements. Preparations are also to be made for integration into renewable energy generation systems. The project will therefore be continued in the Clean Air II project.
