Thuringian lentil varieties: Establishment of a regional seed production of the Kyffhäuserlinse and the Dornburger Speiselinse (LinViTH)
A reintroduction (from seed propagation to the consumer) of regional lentil genotypes - adapted to today's cultivation conditions and production systems - is an innovation for Thuringia and for climatically comparable regions. The aim is to achieve results with regard to the propagation of seed stocks of the Kyffhäuser lentil and the Dornburg edible lentil, findings on the relationships between the Thuringian lentil varieties and to other German origins, establishment of a process for drying, for separating the supporting crop from the lentils and for further purification (cleaning steps) for clean (free of foreign matter) and germinable seed. In addition, findings on the varietal and cultivation characteristics of the Kyffhäuser lentil and the Dornburg edible lentil as well as market data on qualitative and quantitative demand parameters for lentils in Thuringia and a breakdown of the regional distribution of farmers interested in integrating lentils into their crop rotation systems are to be obtained.
