Project Title

Climate-friendly pork production along the value chain from field to fork

Project description

The project firstly analyses the current state of pork production in Southern Germany with regard to climate-relevant CO2 emissions in the complete process from field to fork. Then, measures to reduce CO2 emissions are identified and implemented with the aim of climate-friendly pork production. Company carbon footprints are developed and subjected to CO2 certification with the corresponding audit and certificate. Meat
produced in a climate-friendly männer will then be labeled as such with Climate-Fair Label.
The project focuses on producer association and its quality meat program as a best practice example and research object the Schwäbisch-Hällisches Qualitätsschweinefleisch protected geographical indication in conventional and organic scheme. Through intensive and broad-based knowledge transfer, further
climate-friendly quality meat programs within Southern Germany will be initiated and supported upon their development.

Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.

Results focusing on practiceorientation

effects of a regionally organised and operated pork production on the carbon impact along the entire
value chain from feed to animal husbandry, transport, slaughter, processing and marketing. Evaluation
of the genetic potential of the Schwäbisch Hällische pig breed regarding the digestion of raw fiber-rich
feed. Improvement of the marketing position of pork by means of climate certification and labeling of
