Animal welfare check cattle
The aim of the project is to provide a practicable instrument for fast and regular analysis of animal welfare on Schleswig-Holstein dairy cattle farms. This instrument can be used to document and carry out the legally required self-monitoring of the dairy farms.
With the data from the LKV, the RSH eG and HIT, a large number of indicators is already available that allows an automatically generated, standardized and comparable presentation of the animal welfare situation. For the first time, they will be merged and evaluated in this project. The OG wants to develop, test and establish this innovative animal welfare control tool. This will allow farmers in the future a workable, objective assessment of animal welfare on their farms.

The "Animal Welfare Check" web application enables farmers to quickly and regularly analyse animal welfare directly on the animal in the barn. Thanks to the connection to the database of the state inspection association (results of the milk inspection and connection to HI-Tier), the Animal Welfare Check app automatically analyses existing data. The animal population is thus available on a daily basis and a sample size for the survey is automatically calculated and suggested depending on the herd size. The app guides you through the survey using a clearly structured menu. The assessment of the cows is made easier by selecting the individual barn number, life number or animal name and by clicking on illustrated indicators. The result of the herd assessment is automatically calculated and clearly displayed for the user.
